The Video College

ABOUT US

Who We Are

The Video College is a West London charity set up through a local residents' association in 1994.

We believe there is a wealth of untapped creative talent in London and aim to encourage people of all ages to discover and develop their skills in video production.

Who We Work With

We work with people traditionally under-represented in film and television industries with a focus on:

:: Young people
:: Adults who are unemployed or on low incomes
:: All local communities, particularly minority communities
:: Women in non-traditional roles

What We Do

We provide free, high-quality, production-based video training with a strong drama element.

Our programme offers progression routes so that young people and adults can develop both video skills and the core skills that they need to get on at school or to move into work, further education or training.

Industry Standards

We offer production- based training that introduces industry practice and is accredited in line with Occupational Standards. We have Approval from Skillset, the Sector Skills Council for the Audio-Visual Industries, as an Industry Training Provider and we draw on their advice when planning future developments. That means all our training is to industry standards, meeting the benchmark of assessment and quality control.

We give our trainees, hands on industry standard training so, to the industry, we give a pool of new entrants who are culturally diverse, in many cases multi-lingual. This is becoming increasingly important with the expanding need for multi-cultural programming and for staff who can operate in the global marketplace.

Professional Resources

We currently operate from our main office, our youth and training studios in North Kensington. There we have ten digital cameras, four sound recording kits, eight non-linear edit suites (AVID and Final Cut Pro), facilities for post-production sound and a computer suite.

We have a staff team of eight who collectively have substantial experience of broadcast programme-making, education and training, career development and industry placements, the arts, youth and community work.

Our training programme is planned and run by our Director of Production Training, who worked at the BBC for over 20 years, and we have on hand a pool of industry professionals with similar experience.

Underpinning our programmes, we have staff with sound experience in fundraising and project development, financial management and monitoring.
